Prioritizing student learning and success is at the core of what we do at Merrimack College. Key approaches shaping our success include the personalization of learning, implementing active learning strategies and leveraging the mobile platform. The Blackboard Ultra Course View has enabled faculty at Merrimack to successfully leverage all of the platform’s capabilities including integration with Respondus, Collaborate and Panopto to teach their face-to-face, hybrid and online classes. Ultra is a mechanism where faculty can create a personalized learning environment and build scaffolding throughout their courses by utilizing assignments, tests and quizzes and class discussions (synchronous and asynchronous), which all follow principles of COI (Community of Inquiry). Educational experiences happen when students encounter a cognitive presence, social presence and teaching presence (Garrison et al., 2001), allowing more class time dedicated to active learning.
Presenters will share details of the pilot phase through the full roll out in the fall of 2019.
Participants will see an Ultra Course built with assessments, communications, groups, grading, and rubrics and integrated tools; Collaborate, Panopto and Respondus.
